Catering & Hospitality
Catering & Hospitality is our exciting new subject, replacing Food Technology to offer students a broader and more engaging culinary experience.
Throughout Key Stage 3, students are introduced to essential kitchen techniques, including fundamental knife skills and practical cooking methods. The curriculum goes beyond cooking by exploring the science behind food preparation, the origins and sourcing of ingredients, and essential practices for maintaining safety and hygiene in the kitchen environment.
Students in KS4 that choose the subject as an option will be entered onto Level 1/2 Vocational Award in Hospitality and Catering (Technical Award) run by WJEC. This vocational qualification allows our students the very best opportunity to achieve the greatest results they can by providing a 40% exam 60% practical coursework split.
Whilst on the course, students will refine their existing practical techniques by learning more advanced methods relating to knife skills and cooking. Overall the aim is to elevate their abilities to a higher level and promote confidence in their own ability.
In addition to this KS4 Students will discover the workings of the Catering & Hospitality sector, gaining insight into its structure and function as a professional environment. They will explore the wide range of career paths available, from roles such as Head Chef and Maitre’D to various other specialised positions within the field. Extracurricular trips to key parts of the Catering & Hospitality industry such as Suppliers, Professional Kitchens, Hotels help to promote the opportunities available to them after the course as they enter further education or the world of work.
